Every day we hear more and more about ways in which the human impact on the local environment is leading to increasingly unsustainable pressure on the global environment. In South Australia we share the world's growing concerns about waste minimisation, pollution prevention, and loss of biodiversity.
It is now widely accepted that protection of the environment is crucial for the health, economic, and social well being of future generations. The City of Port Adelaide Enfield is committed to implementing strategies for raising awareness, facilitating community-based projects, implementing Council programs, and working with other levels of government to assist in the protection and enhancement of the City's environment, and quality of life.
Council undertakes strategic planning in consultation with the residential and business community to improve and protect the area's natural and built environment, and the natural resources on which we all depend. Council's strategic planning recognises the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD), which are incorporated into a wide range of Council's policies and programmes.
Council is an active member of the SA Environment Sustainability Network, which is a forum for Local Government practitioners to share information and ideas regarding environmental management and sustainable development.
