Our Community Safety Officers have received a number of enquiries regarding drones lately.
There currently aren’t clear laws relating to remotely piloted aircraft, however the Federal Government is reviewing relevant legislation. The report ‘Eyes in the Sky: Inquiry into drones and the regulation of air safety and privacy’ can offer some more detail.
It is important to note that not all drones carry video or recording equipment.
If you are concerned about privacy please contact SAPOL, however due to the law not being up to speed with current technology, the police are limited in how they can respond.
If you believe safety regulations have been breached please contact the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
Council has a limited response in relation to the operation of drones, however if you are concerned about the operation of a drone on Council land such as a reserve or park, please contact us on 8405 6600.
